Non-essential stores reopened at The Octagon Shopping Centre on 12th April attracting good footfall and generating positive sales for retailers. The reopening was the end of the latest Coronavirus lockdown which has been in place since 31st December 2020.
Richard Chamberlain, Centre Manager said, "It has been a very welcome sight to see our non-essential store reopening and shoppers returning to the town. Although cold, the weather has been bright which always helps to encourage people out of their homes to shop. The Octagon Centre has seen a good steady flow of customers with queues forming to enter some of our stores. Overall stores are reporting a busy return to business. We would like to remind customers that restrictions on customer numbers are still in operation inside stores and, in order to maintain a safe environment, we ask that they continue to follow social distancing guidelines when shopping in the town centre."
In addition to the reopening, new tenant Midco Toymaster opened its doors for the first time since moving to the Octagon from High Street during the lockdown. Trade within the new store was brisk with a constant stream of customers entering the store.
